Contemplating

I wrap words around me

Like a blanket or a cave
They bring security and freedom
Comfort
Some are mine
Thoughts pondered
Clarified
And caught
Making sense of sorrows
Giving voice to smiles
Truths declared
Questions begged
Others authored
By friends and strangers
Friends all, really
Your catch, my feast
Silent here
Words soothe
Quiet
Breathe

Counting my blessings and giving thanks for . .

131. the Word, first and last
132. today’s Word for me: “You shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your household, wherein the Lord your God has blessed you.” Deuteronomy 12:7
133. early morning prayer
134. confirmations to prayers
135. knowing the God of the universe orders my steps
136. and counts the hairs on my head
137. and the hairs on the heads of those I love and am tempted to worry about
138. what care!
139. what love!
140. what rest
141. seeing Em’s dreams come true through two amazing and anointed auditions this weekend
142. a husband who believes in me and our children
143. God bringing insight, forgiveness and unity out of conflict
144. sons seeking our counsel
145. being used to encourage as I spoke to precious, pioneering homeschool moms
145. freedom from lifelong lies and the wonderful truth to replace them
146. faith to keep stepping knowing He makes them sure

holy experience

Kim! I've been thinking of you this week and wondering why I hadn't seen any of your posts in my blog reader. I guess I can't trust Blogger for that : (

But here I am, coming over to check on you, reading this belatedly, and loving the poem. Especially,

    "Some are mine
    Thoughts pondered
    Clarified
    And caught

    Others authored
    By friends and strangers
    Friends all, really
    Your catch, my feast"

So today I am feasting on your catch : )

I love the extremely simple style of this poem, and how effective the imagery still can be despite such a minimalist approach.

    "I wrap words around me
Like a blanket or a cave
    They bring security and freedom
    Comfort"

Immediately I see you snuggled up in your rocking chair with your knees up to your chin, bundled up in a soft, fuzzy blanket. You're warm, and for a moment, that blanket is a barrier between you and the worries and cares of life. It allows you to be innocent and briefly lets you empty your head and heart, though you have so many burdens that duty and responsibility require you to be full of.
For the moment, you are still, you are safe, and you are whole: one place, one time, one focus with no distractions.
Calm and peace in a secret place separate from the rest of the world.

The entire poem is evocative, but I thought I'd put my feelings about that stanza under a microscope for you because I'm so impressed by how so few words could work with my imagination and create such a deep, detailed image 🙂 I love this one.
