Thirty Days of Thanks: Day 11~Today!

Photobucket

I love words, and I love block printing. Last week on our trip to Charleston, I found both in a tent in a market downtown.

Look to this day:
For it is life, the very life of life.

Within its brief span
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.

The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendor of beauty.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;

But today well lived makes
Yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day!

Our days are truly a gift, every single one. But to be mindful of this day and fully present isn’t always easy, especially on a Monday! I wake up on Monday mornings and begin trying to schedule and manage the whole week. The reality is I only have Monday on Monday, not Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Just Monday.

Giving thanks keeps me present. I might worry about all those other days, but I can’t give thanks for them. Giving thanks focuses me on what is transpiring in this day.

The Psalmist gives us an idea of what to do with our days . . .

Teach us to number our days so that we may truly live and achieve wisdom. ~Psalm 90:12 (The Voice)

and . . .

This is the day the eternal God has made; let us celebrate and be happy today. ~Psalm 118:24 (The Voice)

Giving thanks for . . .

~ tasks accomplished

~ unexpected surprises

~ a God who orders my steps as well as my days

~ time with a new friend

Congratulations to Nancy F! She won a copy of Bread & Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table with Recipes, by Shauna Niequist. I’ll be announcing this weeks give away tomorrow, so be sure to check back!

I’m celebrating Thirty Days of Thanks by posting my list of thanks here daily for 30 days. You can join me every day or any day by posting your thanks in the comments, posting at Winsome Woman on Facebook, and/or posting on your own FB wall!

Excellent reminder Kim to live and stay present one.day.at.a.time. For it is only in the present we can be fully aware of the gifts in that moment. I like words and block printing too…good find!

Funny how the present becomes a present/gift when we live in it, huh? Thanks for your presence here, Caryn. That's a present too 😉
