Cardinal, high above me
In a branch bright green
Brilliant blue beyond your backdrop
Do you know you’re red?
Brazen beauty flaming in the sky
Your color commands every eye
Do you feel my stare
And that of all you pass by?
How could you go unnoticed?
Why might He have made you so,
Except for His glory and fame?
And my pleasure
Cardinal, high above me,
Glory in the sky
What color am I?
To enjoy more “imperfect prose”:
oh, i like this, the idea of a bird seeing us the way we see him… this is perfect for imperfect prose on thursday 🙂 bless you friend.
Colours and poems seem to go together for me as well. I have Cardinals in my yard in Texas too. They're so much more reclusive than our Bluejays. I loved your imagery and the spirit of joy that you celebrate brought to your work. Well done. Gay
smiles. what color am i? what do you see when you look at me…nice verse…love to look at all the wildlife that wanders through our yard…and i wonder what they see…
"Why might He have made you so,
Except for His glory and fame?
And my pleasure"
I love this poem. I feel exactly the same way. This expresses such joy in His gifts to us. Thank you.
Original creative way to see life expressed through color. Lovely, and enchanting.

as a bird lover, color lover, and word lover, this poem speaks to many of my senses this morning!!! oh, the majesty in just the fine plumage of a cardinal, and the artistry and mastery of His creation, in our own vivid colors and speaking. beautiful!
Oh my, oh my, I love this.
Love the simple, yet powerfully profound, sentiment of this poem!
I know I will recall this, especially in the gray of winter when the cardinals stand out so much.
Whimsical, wonderful, magical, thoughtful, beautiful, and I love how you incorporated the colors.
"Do you know you're red?
Brazen beauty flaming in the sky
Your color commands every eye"
Fantastic vocabulary (brazen?!?! I love it) and the rhythm and alliteration flows so well.
I like this Mrs. Hyland the writer that I'd never met before.
Beautifully written, beautiful encouragement to think of the many things God created beautiful, just because it pleased Him to do so.
Cardinals always inspire unreasonable, unmitigated joy in me. I love their song!
I love the idea the cardinal doesn't know he's red. This was so pretty. I love the question at the end.
i'm so glad you linked! xo
What a marvelous question!
